Travelers Car Insurance Rate Comparison for Good Drivers

Travelers has middle-of-the-road average car insurance rates for good drivers when compared to top competitors. Safe drivers are eligible for a Travelers discount if they don’t have accidents, violations or major comprehensive claims in the household for three to five years. If you’re shopping for a policy and have a good driving record, it’s wise to ask insurers about good driver discounts and other ways that your clean record may help reduce your rates.

Travelers Car Insurance Rate Comparison for Drivers With a Speeding Ticket

You can expect higher auto insurance rates at renewal time if you get a speeding ticket, but the actual increase varies by company. Travelers’ average rate for a person with a good driving record who gets a speeding ticket increases by nearly $400. Getting a speeding ticket likely won’t make your premiums increase as much as other infractions, such as a DUI, but you can still comparison shop to see if you can find a cheaper insurance policy.

Travelers Car Insurance Rate Comparison for Drivers Who Caused an Accident With an Injury

Travelers has better rates compared to many competitors when it comes to drivers involved in an at-fault accident with an injury. Only State Farm’s average is cheaper, among large companies surveyed. Travelers has three options if you want to make sure that your premiums don’t increase after an accident:

  • Optional accident forgiveness.
  • The Responsible Driver Plan, which also includes minor violation forgiveness.
  • The Premier Responsible Driver Plan, which combines the benefits of the
  • Responsible Driver Plan and adds a Decreasing Deductible and the Total Loss Deductible Waiver.

Travelers Car Insurance Rate Comparison for Drivers With a DUI

Travelers has one of the cheapest average rates for drivers with a DUI compared to other large insurance companies we evaluated. Only State Farm provides a lower average rate. Travelers’ average rate increase for a previously good driver with a DUI ($715) is much lower than other insurers.

If you have a recent DUI and you’re shopping for a policy, State Farm and Travelers are two that you should have on your list for quotes.

Travelers Car Insurance Rate Comparison for Drivers With Poor Credit

Only Geico has lower average rates for drivers with poor credit than Travelers. Insurance companies typically prefer drivers with good credit because insurers believe someone with credit problems is more apt to file claims. California, Hawaii, Massachusetts and Michigan don’t allow this practice and some insurers also put little to no emphasis on a person’s credit.

Travelers Car Insurance Rate Comparison for Adding a Teen Driver

Having a teen can be costly—and that’s even before they reach college. One coming-of-age event that will hit your wallet hard is adding a teen to your insurance policy.

Travelers has one of the largest rate increases for putting a teen on a parents’ policy. One way to defend that rate hike is to delay your teen hitting the road. Delaying your teen’s driving for a year or two may lead to lower rates once they get behind the wheel because they’re a little older. Otherwise, you can make sure you maximize your policy discounts for things like good student and/or low-mileage, and check with your insurer to see if it offers a lower rate if the teen attends a safe-driving class.

Travelers Car Insurance Rate Comparison for Young Drivers Ages 18 to 25

Adding a teen driver to your Travelers policy increases your rates to nearly $3,000 on average, but the good news is that drivers ages 18 to 25 usually pay less when they get their own policy. Only Geico has cheaper average rates for young drivers than Travelers. Kids who are attending college away from home and leave their car behind should also make sure to get “student away at school” and low-mileage discounts when available.

Travelers Car Insurance Rate Comparison for Senior Drivers Age 65+

Travelers is in the middle range for average rates for senior drivers among top competitors. Senior drivers shopping for auto insurance should ask their insurance agent whether they offer discounts for senior drivers who take driver-safety classes. Besides that, make sure you maximize discounts, such as bundling multiple policies with the same insurance company.
